Circular Dated: 12.01.2005 : Introduction of Humanities is Class 9 (Bifurcated Syllabus)

The previous offering for Class IX Bifurcated stream offered the Science and Commerce Stream. The subjects are given below.

Class IX Commerce

Parents/Guardians of students studying in Class 8 going to Class 9 will recieve a form in which the parent will have to choose the stream which the student is going to take in Class 9. English in Classes 2 to 5

English to consist of the average of
a) English Literature
b) English Language
Activity English will be a separate subject to consist of
a) Hand Writing
b) Reading
c) Recitation
d) Spelling & Dictation

Class 8 sixth subject

The sixth subject will consist of two subjects only. They are
a) Economics Application
b) Computer Application
Art is not offered as a sixth subject in class 8. Students will have to take both subjects.

Introducing Class 9 & 10 Commerce in section C only.

The following subjects are offered.
a) English
b) Second Language
c) Social Studies (History / Civics / Geography)
d) Mathematics
e) Commercial Studies (* in place of science)
f) Sixth Subject (Economics Application only. Computer Application and Art is not offered.)

Inclusion of compulsory 3rd language in classes 5 to 8

Compulsory for students taking Nepali and Bengali as 2nd Language.
Those taking Nepali 2nd language will have to take Bengali or Hindi.
Those taking Bengali 2nd language will take Hindi or Nepali.

Students taking Hindi, Tibetan and Dzonkha can choose any 2nd Language to their liking other than the 2nd language they are already taking.

Syllabus guidelines:
Class 5 – recognition, writing and pronunciation of all alphabets
Class 6 – word construction, pronunciation, vocabulary building, names of common objects, writing
Class 7 – sentence construction, basic grammar, reading
Class 8 – advanced sentence construction, advanced grammer, reading, letter writing and composition

Home science discontinued

From class 9 from 2003 and from class 10 from 2004.
Economics Replaced with Sociology

For class 11 Arts from 2003 and for class 12 Arts from 2004.
